DiffusorBlox Slot
Overview
DiffusorBlox Slot simultaneously offers a distinctive appearance, broadband sound absorption (NRC 90), extended low frequency absorption, sound isolation, and sound diffusive reflection control (when painted). This acoustical concrete masonry unit offers unprecedented economy by making it possible to incorporate complete acoustical performance into the structural walls of music, speech, athletic, and multipurpose facilities.
Finish
DiffusorBlox Slot can be finished in a variety of ways to achieve different performanc requirements. To achieve an absorptive surface, the Blox® must be either internally pigmented or painted with a special spray application. When a diffusive surface is required, the Blox® should be sealed and painted. See some of the options displayed under the Finishes tab below.
Installation
DiffusorBlox Slot are installed by the masonry trade. Suggestions for how to install the blocks in order to maintain the best acoustical values can be found below under the Drawings tab.
DiffusorBlox Slot Structural Acoustical CMU
In many spaces, flat reflective surfaces can cause interfering reflections and excessive reverberation which can corrupt work environments, meeting and gathering areas, sports arenas, natatorium, music quality and speech intelligibility to name a few. DiffusorBlox Slot controls noise, sound reflections and excess reverberation in a structural CMU format which eliminates the necessity of added acoustical panel or baffle systems. RPG DiffusorBlox offers unprecedented economy by making it possible to incorporate complete acoustical performance into the structural walls of music, speech, athletic, and multipurpose facilities. DiffusorBlox can be configured to offer extended low frequency absorption, sound isolation, and sound diffusive reflection control.
Problem
Slotted, flat faced acoustical CMUs often land short of achieving the acoustical results that they are intended to achieve. This is because the flat surface of the CMU is most often painted after installation, which can seal the aggregate pores and create a highly reflective surface.
Solution
Diffusor Blox® offers a unique surface topology that can never fall short on performance. When left in its natural state, pigmented, stained or painted with RPG’s recommended application procedure, the block is highly sound absorptive, achieving an NRC of 90. When the block is sealed and painted to reduce absorption, the block offers sound diffusion across a broad band of frequencies. In either state, the block can be provided with slots for added low frequency control and offers significant sound transmission reduction between spaces.
Features
- Offers a structural solution to effectively control noise over a wide frequency range.
- Choose between the structural unit at 12″ depth and the veneer type unit at 8″ depth.
- Configure for sound absorption or sound diffusion.
- Add low frequency control with slotting option.
- Structural units, when fully grouted, have an equivalent thickness of >7″.
- Walls with structural units achieve STC 55.
